What the calculator does

Both forms ask for the same boxes: 6 income, 7 expenses, 8 priority debts (arrears), 9 court orders and 10 credit debts, each line written as “£ … per”. You type each amount as it really comes, pick a week or a month, and the page converts every line, adds every box and works out what is left: box 6 minus boxes 7, 8 and 9 and the payments in box 10, the sum the N245 describes in box 11. It can also show a pro rata split of what is left across your debts, clearly marked as a suggestion. Then print an answer sheet in the form’s numbering to copy onto the official form.

Other situations use other forms. For a claim where the amount isn’t fixed, GOV.UK points to form N9C. If the claim was made online, GOV.UK says to answer it online. To stop an eviction from your home, see GOV.UK’s eviction guidance and get advice from Shelter.

Questions people ask

What is a statement of means?

It is the part of a court form where you list your income, spending and debts so the other side and the court can see what you can afford. On the N9A and the N245 it is boxes 2 to 10, with your offer in box 11.

Do I need the N9A or the N245?

The N9A answers a claim for a fixed amount that you admit, in full or in part, when you want time to pay. The N245 is for after a judgment: to ask for lower instalments, or to suspend a warrant so bailiffs don’t visit.

Is this the official form?

No. It is a worksheet that gives you every figure in the form’s own box order. Download the official form from GOV.UK, copy the figures onto it, then sign and send it.

Who can see what I type?

Nobody else. Your figures are saved only in this browser on this device as you type, and nothing is uploaded. On a shared computer, use Delete everything on the form page when you are done.
