How the figures are worked out

Section B of the courts.ie form asks for weekly amounts and prints its own table: fortnightly figures divide by 2, monthly by 4.3, quarterly by 13 and yearly by 52. This page uses exactly those numbers. For amounts the table leaves out it uses the nearest row: every 4 weeks ÷ 4, every 2 months ÷ 8.6, every 6 months ÷ 26. Each line is rounded to the cent once and each total adds the lines as shown, so the sheet adds up as you copy it.

Section C asks for the total value of your assets and the total you owe, not weekly figures, so those are added up as typed. Open a filled-in example: pay of €2,150 a month becomes €500.00 a week, Total Income is €615.12 and Total Expenses €667.78.

The official Statement of Means (version 1.4) is on courts.ie, as an interactive PDF to fill in on screen or print and fill in by hand. The answer sheet is not the form: copy the figures onto it, sign it and hand it in to the court office.

Different forms, not covered here: the statement of means in a civil debt case (District Court Form 51A.02, under the Enforcement of Court Orders Act 1926) and the Circuit Court affidavit of means in family cases such as divorce (Form 37A, with five schedules; the courts.ie divorce pages also call it a statement of means).

Questions people ask

Why does the form want weekly figures?

Section B says to give your income and expenses in weekly amounts. District Court maintenance is ordered by the week: courts.ie says a judge can order up to €500 a week for a spouse and up to €150 a week for each child.

How do I turn a monthly bill into a weekly figure?

The form’s own table says divide by 4.3, so €1,000 a month is €232.56 a week. Fortnightly: divide by 2. Quarterly: divide by 13. Yearly: divide by 52. This page uses exactly those divisors and shows the working next to each amount.

Why 4.3 and not 4.33?

A year has 52 weeks and 12 months, so a month is about 4.33 weeks, and some guides divide by 4.33. The form says 4.3, which gives a weekly figure about 0.8% higher. This page follows the form, so your figures match its own instructions.

What about bills every 2 months, every 4 weeks or twice a year?

The form’s table doesn’t list them, so this page uses its nearest row: every 4 weeks divide by 4, every 2 months by 8.6 (two months at 4.3), every 6 months by 26 (two quarters at 13).

Is there a separate form for the respondent?

No. courts.ie lists one Statement of Means and says the court may ask either party to fill it in. Its signature section and next steps are written for the applicant, so a respondent should ask the court office how to sign it and how many copies to hand in.

Where does maintenance I receive go?

Section B has no line for it, so put it under Other Income and describe it in the details box. Maintenance you pay goes under Maintenance Paid to Spouse or Child Maintenance Payments in the expenses.

Is this the official form?

No. It is a worksheet that works out every figure in the form’s order. Download the form from courts.ie, copy the figures onto it, sign it and hand it in. The form says the applicant submits 3 copies to the court office.

Who can see what I type?

Nobody else. It is saved only in this browser on this device as you type, and nothing is uploaded. Download a backup to move it to another device. On a shared computer, use Delete everything when you are done.
